How To Avoid A Child Mood Swing And Proactively Engage The Child

Oh my kid is impossible! Can?t deal with child mood swing and frequent tantrums? Find out how to avoid these?

Having a difficult time with your kids? Your child seems to fly off the handle and throw tantrums quite often. She starts screaming in a public place when you don?t act according to her wishes. Further, sibling fights are a constant feature of your household and drive you up the wall. Didn?t think you will have to handle so many emotional ups and downs every single day when you decided to have the baby? It is alright. Relax, kids are as human as you are and are therefore prone to what is commonly called ?child mood swing?. A child mood swing while being very irritating and at times even embarrassing does not need to be difficult to handle. In fact, all you need to deal with a child mood swing is some patience, understanding and humor. Here are some ways in which you can help your child get better control of mood swings:

Keep the Child Active: Keeping the child busy with some or the other constructive activity ensures that her mind is occupied and has little time to even bother about having a mood swing. Further, successful completion of the activity leads to a sense of achievement that again makes the child happy and less prone to throwing a tantrum.

Ensure that the Child has a Nutritious Diet and get Proper Exercise: A healthy body houses a healthy mind and a healthy mind does not suffer from many mood swings. If your child follows a well-balanced diet and gets enough physical exercise, she will be in a good mood for most of the time and it will take something big to tick her off. Therefore, she will be less likely to have a child mood swing.

Make Sure that the Child is Getting Proper Sleep: A child goes through many emotional and physical changes every day added to that there is a lot of activity also taking place. So, your child is bound to get very tired and a tired mind is more prone to mood swings. Hence, to avoid a child mood swing, make sure that your child sleeps well.

Empathize: If your child is upset over or angry about something, don?t tell her that her anger is useless. What may seem to you as something insignificant may well be a big deal for her. Empathizing with her will put across the message that you understand her problem and that in itself will cool her down almost instantaneously, help her get control of mood swings and the next time she is bothered about something, instead of throwing a tantrum, she will come to you for help to sort out the issue.

Do NOT Lose Your Temper: Lastly, whatever you do, do not yell at your kid. Getting angry and shouting will help neither your health nor your child?s moods. In fact, you will be passing the message that it is okay to lose one?s temper. Therefore, be patient if you are angry at your child and give yourself a few minutes to cool down before you talk to your kid. A little humor will also go a long way in easing your temper and the situation and help your child gain control of mood swing. Therefore, the next time you see that your kid is have a 'child mood swing', relax; it is normal and shows the emotional development of a child. Try the methods discussed above to lower the incidence of ?child mood swing? in your household. Your getting angry or upset will only worsen the situation.
