As the name suggests, mood rings are rings that indicate the different moods of the wearer by showing different colors. Mood rings colors come in a wide range and include almost every color in the spectrum; from black to even purple and amber. Although the mechanism is not scientifically proved but mood rings change colors according to the change in the body temperature of the wearer. How do the mood rings work? Let us find out.

The body of the mood ring can be made of anything from silver to gold to even aluminum. The stone is actually a glass stone which contains thermochromic liquid crystals. The mood rings work on the mechanism of biofeedback. The thermochromic crystals are very sensitive. The mood rings colors change according to the moods and emotions of the wearer. Different emotions produce different body temperatures. Changing colors of the mood rings indicate changing moods of the person wearing the mood rings.

Different colors of the mood rings mean different things. Although there is a little discrepancy in the interpretation of the mood rings colors made by different manufacturers, there is however a universal code that is followed by almost all. Mood rings generally show colors like black, gray, amber, green, blue green, blue and dark blue. In some unique circumstances, they may even show colors like white, bronze, pink, yellow orange, red and purple. The color black indicates tensed energy, nervousness, feelings of harassment and overwork. The color gray means the wearer is troubled by anxieties and strain. The color amber in mood rings stands for mixed and unsettled emotions of the wearer. The green color in mood rings reads average emotions indicating that the wearer is not under too much stress or tension. The color blue-green in mood rings is an indicator for charged up inner emotions. Blue means that the person wearing the mood rings is in a state of tranquility and calm. Dark blue color in the mood rings stands for extreme happiness and feelings of love, romance and passion.

The history of mood rings dates back to the late 1960s. The first mood ring was the brainchild of Marvin Wernick who was a jewelry designer. While accompanying his doctor friend who used a thermotropic material to gauge the temperature of his patient, the idea of the mood ring struck Wernick. Mood rings gained maximum popularity in the 70s when hippie culture was at its pinnacle. Mood rings began to be worn in many different forms; finger rings and toe rings being the most popular forms. They were also available in the avatars of necklaces, navel rings etc. Mood rings were popular with both the sexes and became a symbol of youthful exuberance.

The chemical imbalance in the body of the wearer induces fluctuations in the mood rings colors. Although invented many decades back, mood rings have not lost their appeal and are still quite popular. Mood rings colors may mean a lot of things. Try one today.
