The truth about Agoraphobia

In today's modern world, the term sickness not only refers to the illness associated with the physical functionality of the human body, but also the mental part of our minds. Our thoughts have precluded a small part of the human population would be affected by it but the truth is much different from the perception. The so called mental disorders would refer to problems such as distress attacks, anxiety problems, and also social related anxieties. While effect of the problems can be minimal, more severe or serious effects can considerably sum up to what is known as agoraphobia, which can place the affected person at risk from the problem.

Your life is going along the normal path that youve set out when suddenly without any warning terror has you in its grip. You feel weak and helpless. Your hearts pounding and you have trouble breathing. You may even wonder if youre having a heart attack or if youre about to die. When you finally go to see a doctor, you might even be told theres nothing physically wrong with you.

When you suffer from these attacks you keep worrying what is actually wrong with yourself. When these attacks cycle keep repeating itself, you may recognize then that the attacks would only happen under certain circumstances which provoke it or at certain locations that stimulate the attack. Therefore, this information may provide you with a good start towards realizing what the potential causes of these attacks are. The first matter you have to comprehend is that these attacks are not caused by irregularities with your body, but it is caused by something inside your mind instead, and that is why your family doctors may not easily find out the problem with your illness even though they have gone through various tests.

The term Agoraphobia might leave puzzled, wondering what it means. Agoraphobia is actually an illness where the person is fearful of heading to places or certain locations or events which involve lots of people because he is scared certain conditions would leave him suffering from another dread attack again. By understanding and analyzing the key word Agoraphobia we can fully understand the extent of this illness. First of all, the word "Agora" would be explained as the area or location where the people would go and meet by the Greek people, while "phobia" is having certain fears. From that explanation we understand that the individuals who suffer from Agoraphobia is fearful of going to and staying in places or areas overcrowded with people. Agoraphobia is a condition that develops gradually. In general it occurs after a panic attack. After the first attack you may subconsciously be preparing for another attack and fearing the symptoms that will leave you feeling helpless. This cycle of panic attack and impending panic attack can cause you to change your entire lifestyle just to avoid those feelings of terror. As panic attacks can occur anywhere at anytime, we generally associate the first place that we feel helpless as perhaps the reason for our terror.

An Agoraphobia patient would do anything possible to prevent themselves from going to certain places which create conditions where they feel would cause another impending attack. As the situation worsens, they would avoid more and more places and in the end they would rather stay at home all day rather than going out for a while. As a result, this detrimental action would backfire since we are locked up all day long in the house. After certain period of time, we would suffer anxiety attacks even when trying to do normal daily routines outside the house. One of the symptoms of the attack, the fast heart rate, would also cause a serious problem for the individual because we think we are suffering from heart failure or heart attack.

From all these information about Agoraphobia you can understand that if left untreated then sooner or later the patient would suffer greatly from the illness. As soon as the patient realizes they are suffering from the illness then they should seek help from the doctors and professionals as soon as possible. This is to ensure that their panic attacks do not evolve into agoraphobia where the patient's life would be changed forever since they are fearing the day they have to step out from their house and mingle with the crowd and suffer another attack.
